School Morning Recital

An old African proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.” In today’s climate of public and political accountability, high stakes testing and “ax the tax” rhetoric, it takes a village to educate a child. To amass such a village in this day and time is no easy task. Entire families live in homeless shelters; both parents work outside the home, and elderly grandparents, other relatives, and agencies raise children. These circumstances require that educational leaders are able to “go the distance:”

No matter how far
If you’re truly determined to be successful
You already are.

Means moving your feet
And persevering during times
When you’d rather retreat.

Means being focused and fit
Means acknowledging and affirming
